CO-OP Student of the Month of March
Master - Globalization and International Development
When I applied to the University of Ottawa’s Globalization and International Development master’s program during my gap year in Spain two years ago, I could not imagine that CO-OP would give me the opportunity to be back on the Iberian Peninsula so soon. Yet, for my second CO-OP placement, I had the privilege of working in the Foreign Policy and Diplomatic Service section of the Embassy of Canada to Spain and the Principality of Andorra.
A large part of the work we did at the Embassy depended on current world events and I found it extremely stimulating. Indeed, from writing briefing notes highlighting Spain’s position on important foreign policy issues, to discussing Spain’s domestic policies, to planning cultural events and managing the Embassy’s social media presence, I found the learning opportunities to be endless. Getting to practice my Spanish language skills while living in Madrid, and reconnecting with all that I love about Spain and Spanish culture, also really enhanced the experience.
My previous placement at the Canadian Teachers’ Federation was also an incredible learning experience, and I feel very fortunate to have experienced two different but equally enriching CO-OP placements that allowed me to grow as a professional and improve my understanding of my field of study.
